The aim and objectives of English Language are enable students to develop and apply their understanding of the concepts and methods appropriate for the analysis and study of language; explore data and examples of language in use; engage creatively and critically with a varied program for the study of English and develop their skills as producers and interpreters of language, as well as independently investigate language in use.

Component 1:
35% of the total qualification
Marks available: 60 marks
Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes
Component 2:
20% of the total qualification
Marks available: 45 marks
Duration: 1 hour
Component 3:
20% of the total qualification
Marks available: 45 marks
Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes
课程核心内容模块Contents：
Component 1:
Students will explore:
1.How language varies depending on mode, field, function and audience
2.How language choices can create personal identities
3.Language variation in English from c1550 (the beginnings of Early Modern English) to the present day.
Component 2:
Students will explore:
1.Spoken language acquisition and how children learn to write between the ages of 0 and 8
2.The relationship between spoken language acquisition and literacy skills that children are taught, including the beginnings of reading
3.Appropriate theories of children’s language development.
Component 3:
Students will:
1.Select a research focus from five topic areas
2.Develop their research and investigation skills
3.Undertake a focused investigation
4.Apply their knowledge of language levels and key language concepts developed through the whole course
5.Develop their personal language specialism.
